What Is Jailbreak in CS2?
Jailbreak (JB) is a Counter-Strike 2 community game mode in which a small team plays prison guards on the CT side and everyone else plays prisoners on the T side. The guards give orders, the prisoners follow them or rebel, and the last surviving prisoner gets a last request. This guide explains the mode the way it is played on Hummeljail, a German CS2 jail server.
The basic idea: guards vs. prisoners
In CS2 jailbreak a small group plays the guards on the CT side, and everyone else plays prisoners on the T side. The CTs open the cells and give orders. The prisoners follow the orders, look for gaps in them, or rebel.
Aim matters less here than in regular Counter-Strike. What matters is giving precise orders and listening to them closely.
The roles in the jail
- Warden: The CT who leads the round and gives the orders. More in the CS2 warden guide.
- CTs (guards): Hold positions, keep their distance from the prisoners and step in when someone rebels.
- Ts (prisoners): Follow orders, play minigames, rebel, or survive until the last request.
- Rebels: A prisoner who picks up a weapon, ignores an order or attacks a CT counts as a rebel and may be killed.
- Freeday: A prisoner with a freeday does not have to follow orders, as long as that prisoner attacks nobody.
How a jailbreak round plays out
- 1. Round start: The prisoners start in their cells. One CT becomes the warden.
- 2. First order: The warden opens the cells and gives the first order.
- 3. Orders and minigames: The prisoners follow the orders and play the games the warden calls. Anyone who does not counts as a rebel.
- 4. Rebellion: Rebels fight the CTs. Everyone else keeps playing until only one prisoner is left.
- 5. Last request: The last surviving prisoner gets a last request, a 1v1 against a CT.
CS2 jailbreak glossary
The terms you will hear in your first rounds:
- LR (last request): The 1v1 of the last surviving prisoner against a CT, for example knife fight or shot for shot. Details in the last request guide.
- Freeday: No orders. The prisoners move freely but must not attack anyone.
- Freekill: A CT kills a prisoner without a reason. Freekills are against the rules and get punished.
- Warning shot: A warning for a minor violation instead of a kill.
- Rebelling: Ignoring orders, grabbing weapons or attacking CTs. Rebels may be killed.
- RTD (roll the dice): You roll a random effect, good or bad.
- jb_ maps: Community maps with cells, a yard and minigame areas. The CS2 jailbreak maps guide explains how they are built.
Where can I play jailbreak in CS2?
Jailbreak does not run in CS2 matchmaking. It runs on community servers, which you find in the Counter-Strike 2 community server browser. Hummeljail is a German CS2 jail server, and everything on it is in German.
Frequently asked questions about CS2 jailbreak
How many players do you need for jailbreak?
Jailbreak works with a handful of players and gets good from around ten. The CTs are always outnumbered, usually about one guard per three prisoners.
Is jailbreak good for beginners?
Yes. As a prisoner you need no prior knowledge and no microphone: listen and follow the orders. You only need a microphone once you play warden.
Where can I find a German CS2 jail server?
German CS2 jail servers show up in the CS2 community server browser and on server lists. Hummeljail is a German CS2 jailbreak server. Join with connect play.hummeljail.de:27015 in the CS2 console.
Can I play on a German jailbreak server if I only speak English?
Hummeljail runs entirely in German: menus, warden orders, voice and chat. Nothing is translated, so without German you will not be able to follow the orders.
