CS2 Jailbreak Warden Guide

The warden leads a CS2 jailbreak round: the warden runs the CT side and gives the prisoners their orders. This guide shows how that works on Hummeljail, a German CS2 jail server, from the first order to the warden commands. New to the mode? Start with What is jailbreak in CS2?

What does the warden do?

At the start of the round one CT becomes the warden. The warden opens the cells, gives the orders and calls the games.

The other CTs hold positions, keep their distance from the prisoners and step in when someone rebels. There is only ever one warden.

The first order of the round

The first order comes before the cells open. It has to be unambiguous, achievable and audible to everyone. An example:

"All prisoners walk straight from the cells to the yard, no detours, and freeze there."

What matters:

  • One order, one goal: No chains like "first go there, then over here, unless".
  • Allow reaction time: Wait a moment after an order before you kill anyone.
  • Name locations clearly: "To the soccer field" instead of "over there". The CS2 jailbreak maps guide explains the usual areas.
  • Repeat: Repeat important orders once, so players who joined late hear them too.
  • Warning shot first: For minor violations a warning shot is enough. Killing right away produces freekills.

Classic warden games

These games work on every map:

  • Simon says: Only orders that start with "Simon says" count. You try to catch the prisoners with orders that lack it.
  • Last reaction: You count down and give an order, for example jump. Whoever does it last loses. Say beforehand how many players it hits.
  • Hot potato: The prisoners go into the isolation cell and the CTs throw HE grenades in from outside.
  • Race: You set start and finish. Whoever arrives first wins.
  • Quiz: You ask a question and the prisoners answer in chat. The first correct answer wins.
  • Spray contest: The highest or the lowest spray wins. Say beforehand which edge counts.

Hummeljail also has map minigames and RTD (roll the dice). As warden you put special days such as warday to a vote with !sd.

Warden commands on Hummeljail

Hummeljail is a German server: the warden gives orders in German over voice, and the in-game texts are German. Commands are typed into chat with !. They run silently, nothing shows up in chat.

  • !w / !uw: Become warden and step down again.
  • !o: Open the cells. If you do not, they open on their own after a short while.
  • !wmenu: The warden menu with every warden command.
  • !count: Counts the Ts inside the marker.
  • !peace: Mutes everyone briefly for your orders.
  • !sd: Put a special day to a vote.
  • !treat: Special treatment for one T.
  • Laser: Hold E and walk. You draw lines on the floor.
  • Marker: A ping places a circle. To size it, ping the centre and right after that the edge you want.
  • Warning shot: As a CT, hold E and shoot at a T: no damage, the prisoner flashes orange.

The 5 most common warden mistakes

  • 1. Vague orders: "Everyone do something towards the yard" is not an order. What is not unambiguous must not be punished.
  • 2. Impossible orders: Giving an order nobody can carry out and then having players killed for it is freekilling.
  • 3. Too quiet or too frantic: Speak calmly, loudly enough and at a normal pace.
  • 4. Always the same game: Nobody wants five rounds of Simon says in a row.
  • 5. Missing rebels: Use !count to see who is missing and tell the CTs where to look.

Voice tips for new wardens

  • A microphone is required: Test your mic before you become warden.
  • Think first, then talk: Have the order ready before you press the key.
  • Talk normally: Shouting does not make an order clearer.
  • Start small: Play your first round as warden when few players are on.

Frequently asked questions about the warden

How do you become warden in CS2 jailbreak?

On Hummeljail you sign up as a CT at the start of the round with !w, and the warden is drawn from everyone who signed up. If nobody does, a random CT becomes warden. There is only ever one warden per round.

What happens if the warden dies?

Any other CT can take over with !w and continue the round. If nobody takes over, Hummeljail calls a freeday automatically after a short time.

Does the warden need a microphone?

Yes. The warden gives the orders over voice chat. As a prisoner you can play without a microphone.

What is a freekill?

A CT kills a prisoner without a reason, for example without an order or although the prisoner did not rebel. Freekills are against the rules and get punished.
